Chapatti Atta Update

We’re aware of a film going around the internet that suggests that Atta flour could contain plastic.

Food safety and the enjoyment of customers who love our products is our absolute priority and we take any customer concerns very seriously. With that in mind, we’re 100% confident that what you can see in the video you’ve mentioned is, in fact, gluten.

Flour is made from wheat a natural product made up of starch, protein and moisture. The functional type of protein present in wheat flour is termed gluten, which gives the dough the ability to extend to make chapattis, flatbreads and biscuits, and elastic properties to give rise to a loaf of bread. Should you make a dough ball and then gently wash under water, the starch will become soluble and wash out, leaving a gluten ball that is elastic and extensible.

Rajah – a ‘Taste of Home’: Ambitious re-launch for Rajah spices

Already a leading brand in the UK’s ethnic spices market, Rajah is stepping further into the limelight this summer with an ambitious re-launch to retain its rightful position as the UK’s best-loved ethnic spice brand.

Rajah will redefine its market position evoking nostalgia, and family traditions; all highly emotive associations for the well-known brand, which has been producing spices since 1931. In a crowded market, Rajah will stand out as the only brand of spice that can help deliver the ‘Taste of Home’.

Westmill excels in regulatory audits

Westmill’s Trafford site recently welcomed the auditors, when they had their annual legal and mandatory audit to identify any areas requiring improvement under the following legislation:

  • The Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000
  • The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998
  • The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002.

For an impressive sixth year running, both Trafford Park and Selby recorded the maximum score. Enfield too, achieved 100% for the fourth year running.

Trafford will also be undertaking the Occupational Health and Safety Advisory Services (OHSAS) 18001 accreditation already achieved by the Enfield site. This is designed to ensure high standards and consistency across all aspects of health and safety and is all about aiding legislative compliance and maintaining overall performance. It is the gold standard of Health & Safety management systems that would put Westmill firmly at the ‘top of the league’.

Westmill joins in the fun for Sikh New Year

After 2013’s successful inaugural year for Westmill at ‘Vaisakhi on the Square’, the Sikh New Year celebrations at Trafalgar Square, we returned for a second visit in May. Our bespoke marquees, promoting Rajah ,and Patak’s , looked colourful and inviting and our newly designed packaging for Rajah was warmly received, with comments such as:

“It shows the quality of the brand… it now looks like the Rajah of spices!”

Now in its 12th year, ‘Vaisakhi on the Square’ is a vibrant event hosted by the Mayor of London, giving people from across the Sikh community a chance to meet and enjoy New Year celebrations. Over 20,000 people turned out this year to soak up the ambience and join in the fun.
