Describe your career at Westmill in 100 words

Westmill has given me, a non-graduate, the opportunity to learn and develop and stretch myself to reach goals I had not previously considered possible.

When I started work for Westmill in 2006, I had no idea of the opportunities that would be available to me. It was simply a chance to return to Logistics at a company relatively close to home. My son was only 5 years old at the time and I was trying to find that desirable balance of career development and a happy healthy home life.

An advertised 8am – 5pm role became a 9am-4.30pm role and this gave me the support I needed to start my career journey.

What started as a ‘simple’ Logistics planning role, grew into a Northern Transport Manager role. I then had the opportunity to switch to Manufacturing, responsible for managing Production / Milling capacity vs. Demand Forecast in a challenging, complex market. It is a varied role and a key hub in the Rice Segment Team – the link between Commercial, Marketing, Purchasing, Technical, Customer Service & Logistics functions. No two days are the same and I love the challenge that brings.

12 years down the line and I still find opportunities to be stretched and developed. Attending the ABF Women’s Business Education Forum has also enabled me to build a strong network of knowledge and support across our parent Company.

I am currently transitioning to my next career move, it’s an exciting time and I feel like the world is my oyster!
