It is important that our employees are able to give back to the communities that are local to our manufacturing sites and consumers. As well as our volunteering scheme we encourage our staff to come up with exciting ways to fundraise for great causes such as Food Cycle and the Selby Food Bank. Last year our teams raised over £2,500 by organising events such as charity sponsored runs and soup sales. At Westmill we like to match funds raised – giving that little bit more to make a positive difference to the causes that matter to our staff.
Many of our consumer base take part in different colourful celebrations throughout the year such as the Hindu Durga Puja festival, the Bengali Boishakhi Mela and the religious festival of Vaisakhi, the holiest day in the Sikh calendar. We also take pride in supporting these Melas each year. Last year during Vaisakhi, we donated a range of products to the Gurdwara temple which used them to serve over 11,000 meals and delicious homemade Chapattis using our healthy Elephant Atta flour. Our stalls also raised £1,238 in charitable donations for the Gurdwara.
